Another Creation Myth
Another Creation Myth calculates, simulates, and displays the colors of the sky using live atmospheric data from across the globe, at our current latitude. The sky's palette is updated in five-minute increments, capturing the hues from all time zones in a synchronized choreography of light. The data used for this simulation includes atmospheric composition primarily nitrogen and oxygen molecules, whose Rayleigh scattering gives the sky its characteristic blue. Dry air, composed of 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen, with atmospheric water content ranging from 0% to 5%, creates this spectral composition.
Every five minutes, the data refreshes, and the simulation condenses the past 24 hours of sky into a brief, five-minute moment, allowing viewers to witness a full day's celestial transformation in a fraction of the time.
The sky's projection is remapped onto this ring: the bottom edge symbolizes the horizon, while the top edge reaches the zenith, the point in the sky directly overhead.
Inspired by the cyanometer, a historical device invented by Horace-Benedict de Saussure and Alexander von Humboldt for measuring the sky's blueness, this sculpture reimagines their vision through the lens of modern technology. The original cyanometer, with its graduated shades of blue arranged in a color circle, sought to capture the sky's essence. Another Creation Myth ventures in this quest, offering a dynamic experience of ever-changing colors of the sky.
